Butler soccer blasts past Neosho County in 10-1 road win

CHANUTE, Kan. - Madison Wedekind, Madison Zimmer and Kileigh Vann scored two goals each as #13 Butler defeated Neosho County 10-1 in conference play.

Butler (6-3-3 overall, 3-0-1 conference) matched its highest offensive output of the season with the 10 goals, tying the season-high mark that was set back on Sept. 12 in a 10-0 home win over Hesston College.

The Grizzlies dominated the match from the beginning as Wedekind scored the game's first two goals. Vann, Zimmer and Amy Strath added first-half goals as the Grizzlies cruised to a 5-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Grizzlies did not slow down as freshman Dalia Fernandez scored within the first five minutes of the half. Vann, Kennedy Johnson and Maria del Carmen Rios Jean also netted goals before Neosho's Breanna Williams broke the shutout in the 76th minute. Zimmer added her second goal just before the end of the contest for Butler's 10th goal.

Sophomore keeper Paige LaBadie picked up her third win of the season, making four saves. Butler outshot the Panthers by a 31-7 margin, with 20 of the 31 shots on goal.

After a 3-0-1 record in four straight road conference games, Butler returns home for a 1 p.m. match Thursday against Pratt at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
