Three Butler soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American team, which was released on Wednesday.

Three sophomores – goalkeeper Kelsi Langley, midfielder Madison Wedekind and forward Brittney Lawrence – received NSCAA second team All-American honors. The sophomore trio, along with freshman defender Baylee Vaughn, were named to the NSCAA West All-Region squad.

In addition to the individual player honors, Grizzly head coach Adam Hunter was named the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year. Hunter is also a finalist for the NSCAA National Coach of the Year award.

Langley, from Newton, made 17 appearances and 15 starts in goal. The sophomore finished with a 10-3-1 record with a 0.85 goals against average while recording eight shutouts.

Wedekind, from Valley Center, finished with a team-high 35 points and 14 goals. She was third on the team with seven assists. Wedekind had a stretch of scoring 10 goals in a nine-game span and had three games with two goals (St. Louis, Sept. 5; at Dodge City, Sept. 20; at Neosho County, Sept. 28).

Lawrence, from Ajax, Canada, was second on the team with 33 points, including 11 goals and 11 assists. The sophomore scored a hat trick and had an assist in Butler's 5-0 victory over Waubonsee (Ill.) in the opening pool play contest at the NJCAA National Tournament. Lawrence also had an eight-game streak of scoring at least one point (Aug. 23-Sept. 19).

Vaughn, from Wichita, started 22 of 24 games this season and was a key piece of the Grizzly backfield, as the team allowed just 21 goals on the season.

Hunter has now won the West Region coaching honor twice, having received the award in 2011.

Butler finished 16-5-3 on the 2014 season, winning its third consecutive Region VI championship and fifth overall while making a fourth straight appearance at the NJCAA National Tournament in Melbourne, Fla.
