Butler soccer announces signing class for 2015

EL DORADO, Kan. - The Butler women's soccer program announced Wednesday that eight athletes have committed to join the Grizzlies for the 2015 season.

Joining the Grizzlies are Paige Achey, Jasmine Craig, Jaque Gonzales, Colleen Howland, Aspen Loe, Jami Reichenberger, Laurie Theis and Emily Woods.

Six of the signees played high school soccer in the Wichita City League – Craig, Howland and Theis (Wichita Heights); Reichenberger and Woods (Bishop Carroll); Achey (Wichita Northwest) – while Loe played at Maize and Gonzalez played at Dodge City.

"We are very pleased with our 2015 recruiting class," said Butler head coach Adam Hunter. "We feel confident that this group of young women will help to continue the tradition of success that is Butler Soccer.  We know this group will be ready for the challenges and responsibilities that come with wearing the Butler uniform." 

Paige Achey (Northwest) – Playing forward and midfield, Achey was named honorable mention All-City League the past two seasons and received second-team offense All-Region 6A her sophomore year. Achey played club soccer for the Cholita Strikers.

Jasmine Craig (Wichita Heights) – Craig was an honorable mention All-City League selection her junior year. She was named second-team All-City League as a sophomore and earned second-team All-Region honors her freshman season. Craig played club soccer for the Cholita Strikers.

Jaque Gonzales (Dodge City) – Gonzales was an honorable mention All-Western Athletic Conference selection. She played club soccer for the Omega Select.

Colleen Howland (Wichita Heights) – Howland earned first-team All-City League honors last season playing forward as a junior. She received first-team All-Region Class 6A and honorable mention City League honors during her sophomore year. Howland played club soccer for the Cholita Strikers.

Aspen Loe (Maize) – As a midfielder, Loe helped the Eagles to a 6A runner-up finish her junior year. Loe played club soccer for the WFC United.

Jami Reichenberger (Bishop Carroll) – Reichenberger has been the goalkeeper for the Golden Eagles, helping them to three state tourneys and two third-place finishes. She is a two-time first-team All-City League selection the past two seasons. Reichenberger earned first-team All-Region 5A and second-team All-State 5A honors her sophomore season, and was an All-Metro and first-team All-State Class 5A pick during her junior year. She earned MVP honors at the Butler All-Star Soccer Game. Reichenberger played club soccer for the Cholita Strikers.

Laurie Theis (Wichita Heights) – Theis is a two-time honorable mention All-City League selection at midfielder the past two seasons. Theis played club soccer for the KRW Cholita Strikers.

Emily Woods (Bishop Carroll) – Playing forward, Woods has helped the Golden Eagles to three state tournaments, placing third twice and fourth once. As a sophomore, Woods earned second-team All-Region Class 5A honors and honorable mention City League honors. Woods received first-team All-State and second-team City League honors during her junior year. Woods played club soccer for FC Roar.

Last year, Butler soccer went 16-5-3 overall, won the Region VI tournament for the third consecutive season and made its fourth straight trip the NJCAA National Tournament. In the past four seasons, the Grizzlies have compiled an overall record of 80-15-6 (.912 winning percentage) and a conference record of 46-2-1 (.949).
