No. 9 Butler posts third straight shutout with win at Barton

GREAT BEND, Kan. - Butler soccer continued its dominance of the Jayhawk Conference with its third straight shutout in a 6-0 road win at Barton on Wednesday.

The Grizzlies (10-2-0 overall, 6-0-0 conference) have now won six consecutive games and have outscored conference opponents by a 47-1 margin.

Paige Achey opened the scoring for Butler with two first-half goals, the first coming in the 11th minute after a Barton turnover in their own defensive zone. Achey went 1-on-1 with Cougars goalkeeper Maria-Elena Garcia and slid the ball past her for the goal.

Achey then put Butler up 2-0 in the 27th minute, getting behind the Barton defense on a pass from Lexi Clark and scoring her second goal of the contest.

The Grizzlies added three more goals before the half, as Emily Woods, Lauren Allan and Laurie Theis all scored. Clark netted Butler's only goal of the second half, scoring unassisted off a rebound in the 58th minute.

Achey led Butler with two goals, while Clark and Allan each had one goal and one assist in the victory.

Next up for the the Grizzlies is a conference road match at Allen County on Sunday. Kickoff from Iola is at 3 p.m.
