Butler's Achey named to NJCAA All-American first team

Butler freshman forward Paige Achey was named to the 2015 NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer All-America Team, as she earned first-team honors Thursday.

Achey, one of eight freshman named to the All-American first-team, scored a team-high 20 goals and finished with 48 points in 23 games for Butler. Her offensive prowess helped the Grizzlies to their second NJCAA National final four appearance in three years.

Achey, from Wichita, had six games where she scored two goals - including a four-game stretch from Sept. 30-Oct. 16. She had a game-high six points (two goals, two assists) in an 8-1 road win at Coffeyville on Sept. 20.

In the postseason, Achey scored a goal and an assist in a 5-0 victory Johnson County in the Region VI Championship game, helping Butler to its fourth straight region title and seventh overall. Achey also scored a goal in Butler's 3-0 win over Darton State (GA) in pool play of the NJCAA National Tournament.

In addition to being named to the NJCAA All-American team, Achey earned first-team All-KJCCC and All-Region honors this season. During the season, Achey was named the KJCCC Soccer Player of the Week for Week 7, scoring two goals against Barton (Sept. 30) and two-first-half goals at Allen County (Oct. 4).

Achey becomes the 11th Grizzly to receive All-American honors and the ninth player under Butler head coach Adam Hunter.
