Butler sophomores Amy Strath and Jaclyn Means were recently named to the NSCAA All-America first team for the Division I Junior College level.
Strath, a defender from Aberdeen, Scotland, was one of the Grizzlies' key backs on a group that allowed only 11 goals on the season. Strath also pitched in on the offensive side, scoring four goals and assisting one. She earned the KJCCC co-Player of the Week for Week 1. Other honors this season for Strath included earning All-KJCCC second-team honors as a defender, as well as being named to the NJCAA All-National Tournament Team.
Means, a forward from Wichita, Kan., led Butler in total points with 53, scoring 18 goals with 17 assists. She led the Grizzlies in the assist category and was tied for second in goals. Means had two hat tricks on the season, coming in consecutive games against Neosho County (Sept. 13) and Dodge City (Sept. 18). For her efforts against Dodge City, Means was named the KJCCC Player of the Week for Week 5. The sophomore was clutch in the postseason as well, scoring two goals in a 2-0 win over Barton in the Region VI semifinal, then scoring two goals in pool play at the NJCAA National Tournament. Means also earned first-team All-Region VI and All-KJCCC honors and was named to the NJCAA All-National Tournament team.
Strath and Means helped the Grizzlies to a 21-3-0 record en-route to a fourth straight Region VI Championship and a third-place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament in Melbourne, Fla. Butler also won its fourth KJCCC title in the last five years and eighth overall while making its fifth straight appearance to the national tournament.
With freshman Paige Achey receiving NJCAA All-American honors earlier this month, Butler now has a total of 13 players that have received All-American honors. The Grizzlies have had 11 All-Americans under Butler head coach Adam Hunter.
