Butler soccer picks up first conference win at Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - Butler soccer earned its first conference victory of the 2016 season with a dominating 6-0 performance against Coffeyville Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The second-ranked Grizzlies (2-2 overall, 1-0 conference) received a pair of goals each from sophomore Lexi Clark and Caro Limon in the shutout win.

Limon opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a right-footed rocket from just outside the left corner of the penalty box. Less than a minute later with the Coffeyville goalie charging in, Colleen Howland put a shot off the inside left post. In an attempt to clear, a Raven defender knocked the ball into the net, giving the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead.

In the 20th minute, Clark redirected an Emily Woods shot into the goal with a diving header to put Butler up 3-0.

In the second half, the Grizzlies netted three goals in a six-minute span. Freshman Katie Hartman had a strong one-touch finish from about five yards out on a pass from Howland in the 56th minute.

Limon then added her second goal in the 61st minute, scoring off of a Lauren Allan corner kick. Clark followed a minute later with her second goal, blasting a shot that went off the Coffeyville keeper, who fell off-balance and knocked the ball into the goal trying to pull the ball in.

Coffeyville did not register a shot on goal, giving sophomore Jami Reichenberger her first shuout of the season.

NOTES: Butler improved to 12-0-0 overall against Coffeyville... The shutout was the seventh time the Grizzlies have blanked the Red Ravens... the six goals scored by Butler were the most since a 7-0 win last season on Oct. 23 over Kansas City Kansas.
