Allan, Howland score hat tricks as Butler routs Allen 11-2

IOLA, Kan - Sophomore forwards Lauren Allan and Colleen Howland each scored a hat trick as No. 2 Butler cruised to an 11-2 road win over Allen County on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies (3-2 overall, 2-0 conference) opened up a 6-0 lead by halftime against the host Red Devils behind a pair of goals each from Howland, sophomore Lexi Clark and freshman Kennedy Weaver.

Clark scored the game's first goal just five minutes into the contest, then Howland scored consecutive goals in a five-minute span.

With 20 minutes left before the break, Weaver scored her third goal of the season to give the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead. Clark quickly followed with her second goal, coming off a defensive miscue. Weaver ended the first-half scoring with a goal with a minute left before halftime.

Allan, who scored all three goals in the final 45 minutes, tallied her first goal shortly after the second half got underway. The Devils broke the shutout with two goals to pull within 7-2.

Howland completed her hat trick, then Allan followed with two goals to match Howland. Taylor Spencer finished the scoring for the Grizzlies with a goal in the 75th minute.

Next up for Butler will be a non-conference match against No. 3 Tyler, Texas on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The match will be played in Tonkawa, Okla., on the Northern Oklahoma soccer field. 

NOTES: The last time Butler had two players record hat tricks in the same game was last year on Sept. 13 in an 18-0 home win over Neosho County when Rosa Urista-Chico and Jaclyn Means scored three goals each... Butler last had four players score multiple goals in a 14-0 win over Garden City last season on Oct. 9... Butler improves to 17-0-1 overall against Allen County... The 11 goals marks the eighth time the Grizzlies have scored in double figures against the Red Devils.
