Butler wins fifth straight with shutout victory at Rose State

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. – The Butler soccer team continued its road warrior ways on Sunday, winning 1-0 at Rose State College in the last of seven straight games on the road to start the season.

In an intense defensive standoff, Butler scored the game's only goal in the 24th minute. Emily Woods took a ball out of the defensive end, passing to Lexi Clark. She sent a long ball up the field for Colleen Howland, who quickly touched the ball inside of the 18 on the right side, then slotted a ball across the front of the net that was knocked in by Lauren Allan, who was charging forward at full speed.

Neither team would score in the final 65 minutes. Butler keeper Jami Reichenberger posted the shutout in goal for Butler, her second of the season and the 20th of her career. She is now just one save back of tying Melanie Nuessen (2010-11) for second in program history in career saves.

Butler, which lost its first two games of the season at ranked opponents in No. 20 Northern Oklahoma and top-ranked Eastern Florida State, has now won five in a row and is 5-2 overall on the season.

The Grizzlies will finally play their 2016 home opener, taking on Cowley County at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
