Butler soccer wins sixth straight with 7-3 win over Cowley

EL DORADO, Kan. - Butler soccer won its sixth straight game and remained undefeated in conference play with a 7-3 win over Cowley on Friday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

The fourth-ranked Grizzlies (6-2 overall, 3-0 conference) jumped out to a 4-0 lead by halftime behind two goals and an assist from sophomore forward Lauren Allan.

Allan scored an unassisted goal in the third minute, then Caro Limon followed with a strong one-touch goal in the box on an assist from Colleen Howland in the 13th minute. Allan added her second goal on a penalty kick at the 16:39 mark to put Butler up 3-0.

In the 28th minute, Allan was credited with an assist on the Grizzlies' fourth goal, as she collided with the Cowley keeper just left inside the goalie box. The momentum of the ball found its way to Howland, who had an easy open-net goal.

Cowley broke the shutout when Lauryn Souflard scored on a breakaway goal in the 48th minute. The goal marked the first time Cowley had registered a point against Butler since Oct. 13, 2010, as the Grizzlies had recorded six straight shutouts against the Tigers.

but Butler responded when Howland netted her second goal of the contest and 10th of the season in the 66th minute on an assist from Allan.

A flurry of goals by both teams came in the final five minutes of the contest with Butler playing its reserves. 

Cowley's Camila Mehler scored an unassisted goal with 4:29 to play for the Tigers' second goal. 

Grizzly freshman Dani Cole pushed the margin back to four goals on an assist from Ky Kreemer at the 88-minute mark. Souflard quickly answered with a blast from 35 yards out into the net.

Butler scored the last goal as Michelle Palfrey scored with just four seconds left in the contest on an assist from Kreemer.

The Grizzlies outshot Cowley 25-3 in the contest and had a 12-1 corner kick advantage.

Butler will host No. 10 Navarro on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex in a non-conference match.

NOTES: Butler is now 11-0-0 overall against Cowley... The Grizzlies have allowed 14 goals through eight games this season. Last year, Butler allowed just 11 goals all season... Allan has scored five goals and 12 total points in the last two conference games.
