No. 4 Butler stays perfect in conference with win over Coffeyville

Butler soccer ran its winning streak to nine straight games and remained undefeated in Jayhawk Conference play with a 5-0 home win over Coffeyville on Sunday.

The fourth-ranked Grizzlies (9-2 overall, 5-0 conference) received two goals each from sophomore forwards Lauren Allan and Colleen Howland in the victory.

Allan put Butler up 2-0 with consecutive goals less than 90 seconds apart in the first half, scoring the game's first goal in the 17th minute on a pass from Colleen Howland.

On a short Grizzly corner kick, Butler worked the ball to Howland at the top of the box, who trickled it behind the Ravens' defense. Allan ran in behind the defense and redirected it in the net from less than 10 yards out.

Butler went up by two goals when Coffeyville keeper Amy Epp came out of the box to defend a long pass from Lexi Clark intended for Allan. Epp failed to control the ball as she slid feet first on the turf, allowing Allan to score an easy open-net goal.

Like Allan, Howland scored back-to-back goals in quick fashion in the second half. Howland's first goal came in the 50th minute, putting a ball just inside the left side of the goal. Just moments later, Howland scored again on a pass from Laurie Theis.

Pearl Imperial ended the scoring with a goal in the 84th minute with an assist from Lexi Clark.

Goalkeepers Jami Reichenberger and Elena Garcia combined for the shutout, which was Butler's fourth of the season. Coffeyville managed just one shot on goal, while Butler had 23 shots with 17 on net.

Butler will next host Allen County in a 1 p.m. contest Thursday against Allen County.

NOTES: Butler improved to 13-0-0 overall against Coffeyville. The Grizzlies have three shutouts in the last four contests against the Red Ravens... Allan and Howland teamed up to score multiple goals in the same game for the third time this season.
