Butler has three-game win streak snapped at No. 2 Laramie

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Butler soccer had a three-game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 road loss to No. 2 Laramie County.

Laramie sophomore forward Taylor Stoeger scored both goals, which came after both teams played to a scoreless first-half tie.

Stoeger broke the shutout in the 51st minute by receiving a pass to the center and put a one-touch shot in the bottom left corner of the net.

Stoeger added her second goal just 18 minutes later after Laramie pushed the ball down the left side of the field. Golden Eagles midfielder Faith Meredith worked down the left sideline, then passed the ball for Stoeger in the center. She then worked past a defender and blasted a shot just outside the penalty area over Butler goalkeeper Bethany Reeves.

The Grizzlies (3-3-0 overall) have lost all three games by the same 2-0 score this season - all against NJCAA Top 10 ranked opponents. Butler has played all six games against non-conference opponents, with one more non-conference game still left on the schedule (Sept. 21 vs. Navarro, at Midwest City, Okla.)

Butler will open conference play Wednesday with a home match against Kansas City Kansas. Kickoff from BG Products Veterans Sports Complex is at 5:30 p.m.

NOTES: Butler trails 4-7-1 overall vs. Laramie County in the series. The Grizzlies are now 2-4-0 vs. Laramie in games played in Cheyenne... Laramie posted its second shutout in the series, with the first one coming in a 5-0 win back on Aug. 29, 2008.
