Butler scores season-high five goals in road victory at Allen

IOLA, Kan. – Grizzly freshman Rachel Wolecki had two goals and one assist as Butler soccer scored a season-high five goals in a 5-0 road win over Allen on Saturday afternoon at the Red Devils soccer field.

Wolecki scored Butler's first two goals of the contest, getting her first goal in the 14th minute. Madison Edwards assisted on the play, feeding Wolecki a long upfield pass between a pair of Allen defenders. Wolecki then slotted the ball to the left side past Allen keeper Phoenix Michaelis.

Just over a minute into the second half, Wolecki scored her second goal on an assist from Acsa Reyes for a 2-0 Butler lead.

The Wolecki-Reyes tandum teamed up again in the 54th minute, as Reyes fed a give-and-go pass to Wolecki, who one-timed the ball back upfield. Reyes then had a one-touch right-footed shot past Michaelis, who came out to challenge the ball.

Butler took a 4-0 lead in the 66th minute by scoring on a Maizi Garwood corner kick. From the far corner, Garwood put a ball near the top of the 18-yard box for Abby Edson, who then headed the ball into the net.

The Grizzlies' final goal came at the 77 minute mark from Isabela Fernandes, who received a pass from Maju Valaski and one-timed a short right-footed shot into the net.

Butler outshot Allen 22-6 and had 14 corner kicks. Grizzly keeper Lexi Winkle made two saves and played into the second half before getting subbed for Angie Ojeda.

Butler (11-4-1 overall, 7-3-1 conference) will end the regular season with a 5:30 p.m. road game at Cowley on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will then play at Hutchinson in a Region VI quarterfinal contest on Saturday.

NOTES: Butler improved to 24-0-1 all-time against Allen… The Grizzlies have scored nine goals in their last two games. Prior to last Saturday's game against Neosho, Butler had averaged just 1.6 goals per game in 14 matches.
