Butler (2-3, 2-3) picked up their second win of the season winning in a 2-0 shutout over Johnson County Wednesday night in front of their home crowd at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
"This was a great win for us," said head coach Adam Hunter, "especially after losing two starters last game, we had some players step up and play well so I was happy to see that."
It took more than 36 minutes in the first half for the first goal of the game to be scored as the ball was moved all across both ends of the field with little to no good looks at the goal.
The first goal of the game came off of an indirect penalty committed by the Cavaliers as a player passed it back to the Cavalier keeper who picked it up. This made way for Kim McAlpine to drive a shot past the blockers and the keeper into the bottom left corner of the net.
That was the lone goal of the first half as Butler led 1-0 going into the break.
Laryn Murray added an insurance goal with a rocket shot from 25-yards out to put the Grizzlies up 2-0 with 18:41 remaining in the contest. Butler would hold onto that lead shutting out the Cavaliers and picking up their second win of the season.
Butler goalkeeper Maggie Koster was a wall inside the net totaling seven saves on the night. Kim McAlpine scored her first goal of the season as well as Laryn Murray. Rachel Wolecki and Alyssa Kubick each had an assist on the night.
Butler has now outscored their opponents at home 6-0 but have been outscored on the road 8-3. So, the Grizzlies definitely finding a groove inside the confines of BG Products Veterans Sports Complex but will need to find more ways to score on the road to piece some wins together.
NEXT UP: Butler will head to Garden City on Saturday, April 24 to face the Broncbusters with a 1:00pm kickoff. Butler will return home on Wednesday, April 28 to play host to the Conquistadors of Dodge City at 7:00pm.
