Butler advances to final four with 4-0 win over Dodge City

The Butler soccer team advances to their third consecutive Regio VI Tournament final four with a 4-0 win over Dodge City Sunday afternoon in their final home game of the season.

Battling the chilly weather and a gusty south wind, the Grizzlies dominated the field all game long.

Butler led just 1-0 after the first half with a goal from Bailey Williams in the 16th minute off a penalty kick but had several opportunities throughout the first half.

They really opened it up in the second half with the wind at their backs with back-to-back goals from Ellie MacDonald and Kenzee Godwin. MacDonald rocked her shot into the back of the net from 37-yards out while Godwin got the ball in the middle of the box and sneaked it past the keeper for her sixth goal of the season.

Morgan Fischer rounded out the scoring, her first goal of the season, in the 84th minute as she shot one off the top cross bar that ricochet off the keeper into the net.

The Grizzlies took full advantage of the wind at their back in the second half totaling 11 shots, seven on goal. Ashton Conley got the start in goal finishing with two saves while also picking up the shutout. Dodge City mustered up just three shots in the match with two on goal.

Butler improves to 15-4-1 on the season and finishes 9-2 at home this season.

The Grizzlies head to the Region VI/Plains District semifinal match where they will play the winner of Barton/Johnson. That game will be played on Thursday, November 4 at 11:00am at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, KS.
