Butler picks up big road win over No. 12-ranked Tigers

The Grizzlies picked up their second huge road win of the week, four days after traveling to Overland Park and defeating Johnson County, as they went to Arkansas City on Saturday and defeated the 12th ranked Cowley Tigers, 2-1.

The victory is Butler's fifth of the season against a ranked opponent, as the Grizzlies improve to 7-2 on the year, and 3-0 in conference play.

Kenzee Godwin started the scoring, putting Butler up 1-0 by finding the goal off her own rebound in the 12th minute, her eighth of the season. Cowley found a first half equalizer six minutes later but the Grizzlies were able to gain back the lead in the 25th minute, as Emma Kolbe scored for the second straight game off an assist from Brooke Sullivan. The Grizzlies took the 2-1 lead into halftime.

Kyrah Klumpp would preserve the lead with a second half shutout, as she faced seven shots and made a save in the final 45 seconds, cementing the victory.

The win over the Tigers avenged the only conference loss of the season last year, when Cowley defeated Butler in Ark City 2-1.

Conference play resumes at home for Adam Hunter's squad as the Grizzlies return to El Dorado at home for a date with Neosho on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:00pm.
