The Butler Grizzlies continued their winning ways with their second straight home route, scoring in the first minute of the game and never looking back en route to a 4-0 victory against the Neosho Panthers.
The win improves Butler's record to 10-2-1 on the year and 6-2-1 in conference play, and extends their unbeaten streak to seven straight games. Adam Hunter's record against Neosho improves to 33-0-1 with the victory.
Kenzee Godwin got things started for the Grizzlies with a goal just 106 seconds into the game, taking a sweet pass from Brooke Sullivan and converting for her 10th goal of the season. Seventeen minutes later the Grizzlies would double their lead off a set piece as Brooke Sullivan converted off a Brooklyn Hunter corner. The goal was Sullivan's seventh of the year. The Grizzlies would take the 2-0 lead into the halftime interval. It was Treasher Valcin who claimed Butler's third goal, as her pass found a way into the net to triple the Butler lead. The goal was Valcin's first for the Grizzlies, with Yossi Vilagrana earning the assist. The Grizzlies' fourth and final goal was a stunner, as Brooklyn Hunter took the ball from 30 yards and shot a swinging beauty past the keeper and into the top corner of the net, earning her first goal of the season and stamping the win in emphatic fashion.
"I'm just happy with the way the girls kept the ball today," said Head Coach Adam Hunter in the postgame press conference. "It's something that I've been pretty adamant about this week, just trying to simplify the game."
"I thought this was one of our better games," said Brooklyn Hunter. "The last couple of games we hadn't played to our potential and I feel like tonight we did for sure."
Next up for the Grizzlies is a gigantic game, as 17th ranked Hutchinson comes to BG Products Veterans Sports Complex in a battle of the top two teams in the Jayhawk Conference.
"If anybody knows the history of this conference, Hutch and Butler was a big storyline for a long time and to have them come to El Dorado and be nationally ranked, it'll be a big game."
"We're going to have to keep the momentum going and keep working at practice every day, it's definitely a challenge," mentioned Hunter.
"We're excited for Hutch, I'm really excited," said Sullivan.
