Butler opens season at Herm Wilson meet at Wichita State

The Butler Community College track and field team opened its season at the Herm Wilson Invitational, hosted by Wichita State University.

With the start of school still over a week away, the team only had a few athletes participating in this opening meet.

Leading the way on the women's side were sophomores Remona Burchell and Latesha Bigby.  Both Burchell and Bigby qualified for the NJCAA Championships in their respective event. Bigby got it started when she qualified in the Long Jump. Her jump of 18' ¼" was not only good for the NJCAA qualify, but it also placed her 2nd in the meet. Burchell qualified in the 60M Dash. Her time of 7.34 in the finals was not only good enough to qualify, but it was also a new meet, track and school record.

The men were led by a pair of sophomores as well, Coty Williams and Drake Brown. Both Williams and Brown hit the qualifying standard in the 1000M run.

The next action for the Grizzlies and Lady Grizzlies will be Jan 18-19 at Texas Tech University.
