EMPORIA, Kan. - The Butler outdoor track and field team took a condensed squad to the Emporia State Midweek Open on Wednesday in a final tuneup before next week's Region VI Outdoor Championships.
Only seven Grizzly athletes competed in the open, but still managed to finish in the top 10 in six different events.
Sophomore Jonelle Reinert had the top finish for Butler, as she took third in the women's 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:27.52. The women also had a pair of fourth-place finishers in Kiarra Baker (100-meter dash) and Nhaieemah Horne (400-meter dash).
On the men's side, Arsenije Savic placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 1 3/4 inches.
Other top 10 finishes were Jamie Bell (long jump) and Josie Wright (hammer throw). Bell posted personal-best marks in both the long jump and javelin, while Wright bested her top marks in the shot put and discus.
Next up for the Butler track and field team will be the Region VI Outdoor Championships, which begin Thursday, May 1 in Arkansas City. The championships will run through May 3.
