HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Butler track and field team medaled in five events and qualified for finals in three other events during Day 2 of the NJCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Meet in Hutchinson on Friday.

Heading into Saturday's finals, the women are currently in ninth place with 11 points, while the men are in 10th with 12 points.

Sophomore Terra Flores had the top individual performance of the day as she placed third in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, running a personal-best 11:43.38.

In the women's pole vault, freshman Rachael Buzanowski took fourth, with her top vault clearing the bar at 11 feet, 5 inches.

The men's team had three fifth-place finishes on the day, beginning with the 4x800-meter relay team of Kennedy Chumba, Albert Meier, Luke Johnston and Shevon Blair. Running the anchor leg, Blair edged out Allen County's runner at the finish line, as the team ran a time of 7:46.66.

Individually for the men, freshman Kavan Mark took fifth in the men's javelin, with his longest throw going 180 feet, 6 inches (55.03m). In the triple jump, Mohammed Abubakar reached 47 feet, 9 1/4 inches in his final attempt for fifth place.

In the men's 4x100-meter relay, the team of Lamarion Arnold, Jalen Gillie, Edward Simmons and Eli Hall-Thompson qualified for Saturday's finals with a time of 40.23 seconds, which was the second-fastest time in preliminaries and is the top time in the state of Kansas (Kansas State University's top time is 40.31 seconds, while the University of Kansas' top time is 40.50 seconds).

The men's 4x400-meter relay team also qualified for finals, as Donavan Ayers, Emmanuel Mwewa, DeAndre Wade and Arnold ran a time of 3:12.55, which was seventh-best. Arnold also qualified individually in the men's 200-meter dash, running a time of 20.84 seconds.

Also scheduled to compete during Saturday's finals are:

- Albert Meier (men's 5,000-meter run)
- Terra Flores (women's 5,000-meter run).
