Butler track takes 13 events at Grizzly Invitational

In the final home event of the outdoor season, the Butler track and field team won 13 events at the Grizzly Invitational on Saturday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

The Butler men led the way with nine first-place finishes, while the Grizzly women won four events, despite a heavy southwest wind.

Lamarion Arnold and Quintaveon Poole both had three top finishes to pace the Grizzly men. Arnold won the 200-meter dash (20.56 seconds), while Poole cruised to a win in the 400-meter dash (47.56). Both Arnold and Poole were part of the winning 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams as well.

Arnold, Xavier Atkins, Poole and Akeem Sirleaf ran the 4x100-meter relay in a 40.11 time, while Emmanuel Mwewa, Arnold, Antonio Coleman and Poole won the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:21.70.

In men's distance events, Emmanuel Biwott won the 10,000-meter run (35:03.28), while Nolan Hesse took first in the 5,000-meter run (16:20.35). The Butler men also won three field events, as Mohammed Abubakar (long jump, 7.58m), Elijah Smith (triple jump, 15.19m) and Landon Cuskelly (high jump, 2.06m) all won their respective events.

On the women's side, Alexxis Milner had the top 100-meter dash time at 11.83 seconds, while Alex Fulton won the 10,000m run (49:01.70). Valeriya Kostiuk had a season-best outdoor mark in the high jump, clearing 1.76 meters.

Ashley Ehrhart, Ona Giles, Sabrina Lormeus and Milner also won the 4x100-meter relay, crossing the finish line with a time of 47.19 seconds.

Next up for the Butler track team is the K.T. Woodman Classic at Wichita State University. Butler will compete Friday evening in the distance carnival, beginning at 5:45 p.m. The javelin event will also be held Friday at 6 p.m. Running events open Saturday's schedule at 10:30 a.m., while the remainder of field events start at 11 a.m.
