Butler 4x800m places fourth, Kostiuk finishes fifth in high jump

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Butler women's track and field team had three more national placers on Saturday at the NJCAA Indoor Championships, which was held at the Pittsburg State University's Robert W. Plaster Center.

Butler scored a total of 14 points at the meet and finished 18th overall out of 27 teams. New Mexico won the meet with 122 points, while runner-up Iowa Central finished with 116 points. South Plains (Texas) placed third overall with 73 points.

Butler's 4x800-meter relay team had the top finish on Saturday, as the freshman relay team of Jade Searles, Roshae Burrell, Jeanna Baker and Conangela Senior finished fourth with a time of 9:40.38.

Sophomore Valeriya Kostiuk placed fifth in the high jump by clearing 1.71 meters (5' 7-1/4"). After missing her first attempt at both 1.61 and 1.66 meters, Kostiuk went over the bar on her first attempt at 1.71.

In the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Alexxis Milner finished seventh after crossing the line at 8.94 seconds. Milner also placed eighth in Friday's pentathlon with 3,223 points. Her top pentathlon event was the 60-meter hurdles, where she finished third with a time of 8.99 seconds.

Also on Friday, the women's distance medley relay team of Jeanna BakerDavia Smith, Roshae Burrell and Jade Searles finished eighth with a time of 12:48.68, while freshman Jayne Roberts placed eighth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.35 meters (10' 11-3/4") on her first attempt.

Butler will open the outdoor season this Thursday by hosting the Butch Reynolds Invitational at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m., while running events will get underway at 1:00 p.m.
