The Butler women's track and field team had nine first-place finishes and three national qualifying marks at Thursday's Butch Reynolds Invitational at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

Grizzly freshmen Janelle Carty (400-meter hurdles), Beanie Luttig (discus) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Javonda Peagler, Kylia Smith, Tashoy Blake and Alexxis Milner all qualified for the NJCAA Outdoor Championships.

Carty took first place in the 400m hurdle event with a time of 1:06.61, while Luttig had the top throw of 40.89 meters (134' 2") in the discus. The Grizzlies' 4x100-meter relay team also had the fastest time with a national qualifying time of 46.72 seconds.

Butler dominated the 100 and 200-meter dash events, with the Grizzlies finishing 1-2-3 in both events. Peagler won the 100m event with a time of 12.37 seconds, while Blake was the top runner in the 200 at 25.34 seconds. Behind Peagler in the 100 was Kylia Smith (12.47) and Blake (12.58). In the 200, Davia Smith finished second (25.76), while Courtney Willis placed third (26.23).

Sophomore Helen Thames took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.49, giving the Grizzlies a clean sweep in al three sprint races.

Butler also won all three distance events, beginning with sophomore Janie Salinas winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:30.46). In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Roshae Burrell had a top time of 5:04.04, while freshman Jade Searles took first in the 5,000-meter run (20:13.35).

The Grizzlies have four runner-up finishes in running events, as Kylia Smith (100m, 12.47), Davia Smith (200m, 25.76), Conangela Senior (1,500m run, 5:15.47), Darian Trost (3,000m steeplechase, 14:52.89) all took second.

Dejah Erskine (shot put, 12.10 meters), Madison McLaughlin (pole vault, 3.05 meters) and Jalicia Neil (high jump (1.48 meters) also placed second in their respective field events.

Butler will next compete in the Tiger Invitational on Saturday, April 1 in Arkansas City.
