Butler women finish 16th at NJCAA Outdoor Championships

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Butler women had six individuals and two relay teams place at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships at Hutchinson's Gowans Stadium.

Butler scored 18.5 points at the three-day meet, finishing in a two-way tie for 16th place overall. Taking top team honors was New Mexico with 97 points, while Barton was second with 83.5 points.

Freshman Jayne Roberts had the top individual finish for the Grizzlies, as she finished in a tie for fourth in the pole vault by clearing 3.35 meters (10' 11-3/4"). Sophomore Madison McLaughlin also took eighth in the event  at 3.20 meters (10' 6"), giving Butler two medalists in the event.

Butler's 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Alexxis Milner and three freshman - Davia Smith, Tashoy Blake and Kylia Smith - placed sixth with a time 0f 47.16 seconds.

Milner was sixth in the heptathlon with 4,317 points, as she finished in the top four in three events. She won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.79 seconds, took third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.74) and fourth in the 800-meter run (2:35.20).

Milner, Davia Smith and sophomores Courtney Willis and Helen Thames were part of the 4x400-meter relay team who placed seventh (3:51.90).

In the hammer throw, freshman Julianna Horner set a personal-record mark with a toss of 47.44 meters (155' 8"), good for eighth place. Horner set the PR on her first attempt in finals.

Freshman Jade Searles took seventh in the 1,500-meter run (4:55.41), while Davia Smith was eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.92).
