Butler women have six first-place finishes at Herm Wilson Invite

WICHITA, Kan. — The Butler women's track and field team had six first-place finishers and five runner-ups at Wichita State's Herm Wilson Invitational on Saturday.

Among junior college schools, Butler scored 123 points and finished runner-up to Cowley's 184 points.

Butler swept both relays, including a nation-best 9:45.15 time in the 4x800-meter relay (Jade Searles, Roshae Burrell, Jeanna Baker and Conangela Senior). The team of Anderson, Davia Smith, Blake and Ciarra Baker took top honors in the 4x400-meter event, crossing the finish line at 4:04.01.

The Grizzlies had the top two finishes in both the 60-meter and 400-meter dash. Sophomore Charnice Anderson won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.72, while Kylia Smith was right behind at 7.80. In the 400, sophomore Tashoy Blake (1:00.04) and freshman Rebekah Hamilton (1:02.21) finished 1-2.

Sophomore Jade Searles topped the 800-meter run in 2:26.67, while sophomore Kylia Smith took first in long jump as she reached 5.34 meters (17' 6-1/4") on her first attempt.

Also earning second-place finishes for the Grizzlies were sophomore Roshae Burrell (1,000m run, 3:11.06), sophomore Jayne Roberts (pole vault, 3.26 meters), and freshman Kayliah Carr (triple jump, 10.63 meters).

Other Grizzly places at the Herm Wilson Invitational:
– Pentathlon: Ashton Snyder (1,751 pts, seventh).
– 1,000-meter run: Jeanna Baker (3:15.10, third), Tara Mayes (3:29.31, seventh).
– 600 meter run: Conangela Senior (1:42.08, third).
– 800-meter run: Ebigael Romo (2:46.25, fifth)
– High jump: Jalicia Neil (1.53m, third)
– Long jump: Kayliah Carr (4.81m, sixth)

The Butler track and field squad will head to Lubbock, Texas for the Texas Tech Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9.
