Butler Track and Field has Successful Weekend at Region VI Outdoor Championships

The Grizzlies traveled to Coffeyville to compete in the Region VI Track and Field Championships and 19 athletes come home with hardware as Butler claimed six gold's, four silvers, and seven bronze totaling seventeen top three finishes. 

Butler Track and Field comes home with nine Region VI Champions including Nazzio John who claimed gold in the Men's 100 meter dash at 9.96, the 200 meter dash at 20.10, and was a member of the Men's 4x100 meter relay team along with Shawn Brown, Andre Morrison, and Javari Thomas. This relay set a facility record at Veteran's Memorial Stadium at Coffeyville Community College with a time sub-forty time of 39.33 seconds. The Men's 4x800 meter relay team of Andrew Leck, Wail Bourahli, Abdelhakim Boukhiar, Zach Trotter also set a facility record and claimed the gold with a time of 7:37.74. Also among the champions were Wail Bourahli who claimed another Gold in the Men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:52.05, and Braylon Buchanan who won the Men's High Jump with a jump of 2.02 meters.

Taking home silver medals from the Region VI Championships are Shawn Brown in the Men's 100 meter dash at 10.00, Tashira Edwards in the Women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.32, Star Mpama in the Women's 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.73, and Khloi Bird in the Women's 10000 meter run with a time of 41:04.44

Claiming bronze for the Grizzlies are Joda Campbell in the Women's 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.99, Javari Thomas in the Men's 200 meter dash with a time of 20.41, Trishanie Warner in the Women's 400 meter dash with a time of 57.00, Heidi Grimmett in the Women's 3000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 12:23.68, as well as two relay teams.

Men's 4x400 meter relay team of Nickory Richards, Nazzio John, Avindale Smith, Shawn Brown with a time of 3:11.02 and the Women's 4x800 meter relay team of Star Mpama, Khloi Bird, Grace Cantrell, Trishanie Warner with a time of 9:41.13. 

In the field, Kadine Brown claimed the bronze in the Women's Discus Throw with a throw of 46.04 meters and Kayla Ortman took fourth in the Women's pole vault at 3.12 meters. 

The Women's 4x100 Meter Relay team of Akeera Esdelle, Vionce Olivares, Deanna Miller, Joda Campbell ran a 48.72 claiming fourth place.

Javari Thomas rounded things out for the Grizzlies in the 100 meter dash coming in fourth at 10.16 and Shawn Brown took fifth in the Men's 200 meter dash at 20.79. Khloi Bird came in fourth in the Women's 5000 meter run with a time of 20:12.81. In the 10,000 meter runs, Josie Ware placed fourth with a time of 41:38.04 and Mallory Boden took sixth with a time of 43:16.45 for the women, and Adem Bouldjadj finished in fourth place for the men with a time of 32:16.26.

Grizzlies took sixth, seventh, and eighth in the Men's 1500 meter run with Wail Bourahli coming in at 4:02.78, Adem Bouldjadj at 4:03.11 and Andrew Leck at 4:04.97.

In the 5000 meter run, Mallory Boden placed seventh with a time of 21:11.15 and Josie Ware placed ninth with a time of 21:22.29 for the women and Adem Bouldjadj placed tenth for the men with a time of 16:55.76

Grizzlies took eighth and ninth in the Men's 400 meter run with Nickory Rickards running 48.92 and Tomlee Thomas running a 48.99. Abdelhakim Boukhair took eighth place in the men's 800 meter run coming in at 1:57.00/

Trenton Hastings placed tenth in the Men's javelin throw with a throw of 44.69 meters and Kevin Swindell placed tenth in the Men's pole vault with a vault of 3.87 meters.

The Grizzlies that qualified will now prepare for the NJCAA Division 1 Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships hosted in Hobbs, New Mexico May 18-20th.
