Butler goes 3-1 at Barton Tournament to open season

GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Butler volleyball team won its first three matches of the year at the Barton Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Butler beat Clarendon, Texas in five sets and swept Hesston in three sets on Friday. On Saturday, Butler defeated Cisco, Texas before falling to the home team, Barton, which is ranked No. 16 nationally among NJCAA Division I volleyball progams.

Against Clarendon on Friday, Hanna Flaming led the team with 11 kills and had one ace. Chasity Clark had 10 kills, Amy Dodge had eight kills and two aces, Haleigh Lewis had seven kills, Rachel Phillips had 28 assists and five aces, Hope Harsh added 18 assists and two aces. Defensively, Aimee Wood had 21 digs, Hannah Flaming and Rachel Phillips had 15 digs, Hope Harsh added 15 digs. Haleigh Lewis led Butler with three blocks.

Against Hesston, setter Rachel Phillips had 14 assists and four aces, while Hope Harsh has 12 assists. Kenzi Lewis had five kills and one block, Hanna Flaming had five kills and Samantha Jernigan and Kimberlin Johnston had four kills each.

On Saturday, Butler defeated Cisco 26-24, 25-22, 25-19. Hanna Flaming had 10 kills, while Amy Dodge and Haleigh Lewis had 6 kills each. Haleigh Lewis had 4 blocks and Amy Dodge had 5. Our Libero Aimee Wood 17 digs while Hope Harsh and Rachel Phillips had 10 apiece. Rachel Phillips also had 17 assists while Hope Harsh had 11.

Butler will play its first conference match of the season on Wednesday, when Independence visits the Power Plant for a 6:30 p.m.
