Butler wins three matches at Central Nebraska tournament

The Butler volleyball team rolled to a 3-1 record this weekend at the Central Nebraska Tournament, with the only loss coming to one of the top teams in the nation.

The Grizzlies, coming off a victory earlier in the week over No. 7 Johnson County, kept rolling on Friday against Southeast Nebraska, winning 25-13, 25-21, 25-11. In the match, Hanna Flaming had eight kills and two aces, Jordan Hoheisel had seven kills with nine digs, Hope Harsh had 14 assists with an ace and Kailin Kuzmik had eight assists and four aces.

Butler then suffered its first loss of the season when they faced No. 3 Iowa Western in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-9. Jordan Hoheisel had five kills and one ace with 12 digs. Hope Harsh had eight assists and nine digs, while Aimee Wood had 18 digs. 

Butler started Saturday with a marathon match against Bismark State (N.D), winning in five sets. The Grizzlies dropped the first two sets 25-23 and 25-23. The Grizzlies then rallied to win 25-15, 25-14 and 15-7. Haleigh Lewis had 16 kills and a block. Payton White, who had missed time with an injury, returned to the lineup to record 12 kills and three blocks. Jordan Hoheisel had 11 kills and Hanna Flaming had nine. Hope Harsh had 26 assists with an ace and Aimee Wood had 28 digs.

The Grizzlies finished the tournament by playing North Dakota State College of Science in straight sets, 25-16, 25-15, 25-17. Payton White had eight kills, while Haleigh Lewis and Hanna Flaming had six kills apiece, while Lewis had four blocks. Hope Harsh had 15 assists, while Kailan Kuzmik had 11 assists and two service aces. Aimee Wood had  13 digs and two aces.

Butler is now 9-1 on the season and will return home to take on Neosho County at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
