Butler Head Volleyball Coach Rick Younger recently announced that six high school seniors signed letters of intent to be members of the 2013 Grizzly volleyball team. They include Mackenzie Stuever and Jessica Schwartz from Andale High school, Lexie Wartick and Bailey Santo from Rose Hill High School, Mckenzie Johnson from Washburn Rural High School and Mary Kangas from Maize High School.
Stuever was named to the all conference team three times during her high school career. Those include honorable mention her sophomore year, second team her junior year and first team her senior year. She was named to the Kingman all-tournament team during both her junior and senior seasons. She was also named to the Circle all-tournament team as a senior.
Stuever's teammate Schwartz is a libero that was a 2012 all-conference selection and also was named to the 2012 all-tournament team at the Kingman Volleyball Tournament. Stuever and Schwartz were a part of the Andale team that was the 2012 league champions in Division VI of the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail.
Wartik and Santo were a part of the 4A sub-state championship teams in 2011 and 2012 and also finished third place at the 2012 state tournament while at Rose Hill.
Wartik is a 6'0" middle hitter and Santo is a 5'11" opposite hitter who earned honorable mention for the 2011 season in Division III of the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail. Santo was also named to the 2012 class 4A state tournament team.
Johnson, a 5'10" outside hitter and two year letter winner was a part of Washburn Rural's 2011 and 2012 Centennial League championship teams. In those same season's she was also helped Rural become Tri-State champions. During the 2012 season she was also a part of the 6A sub-state and state championship teams.
Kangas a 5'10" setter and four year letter winner played in the 6A state tournament all four years at Maize South. During the 2012 season she was named to the first team all-conference in Division II of the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail and also earned honorable mention at the state tournament. Before moving to Kansas she was member to the National High Performance team in Oklahoma.
These six incoming freshman will look to help the Grizzlies add another successful season under Coach Younger during the 2013 campaign.
