Butler overcomes slow start to sweep home opener from Allen

The Butler volleyball team fell behind big early on in its first Jayhawk Conference match of the season, but roared back and eventually swept a three-game set from Allen County in the home opener at the Power Plant on Wednesday.

The Grizzlies found themselves behind 8-1 in the first set before scoring eight straight points to take a 9-8 lead. Butler would be in a close battle for the rest of the set but eventually won 25-22.

Butler then shot out to an 8-0 lead to start the second set. Allen County would mount the comeback in this set, taking a 20-19 lead, but the Grizzlies finished strong and won the second set 25-21.

The Grizzlies simply controlled the third set from start to finish, winning 25-12 to sweep the match.

Payton White led the way for Butler with 11 kills with a whopping .409 kill percentage. She also had four blocks. Jessi Green had eight kills and 14 digs. Kailan Kuzmic had 18 assist, 11 digs and two service aces for Butler. Jessica Schwartz had 16 digs for the Grizzlies.

Butler is now 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Grizzlies are off this weekend before travelling to Overland Park next Wednesday for another conference match against Johnson County.
