Butler rolls to straight-set road win at Longview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Butler volleyall team rolled to a straight-set victory over Longview on Friday, winning 25-16, 25-15, 25-23 on the road. 

The Grizzlies, ranked 15th nationally, fell behind 4-1 in the first set but scored eight straight points during the match to eventually cruise to the win. Butler controlled the second set before struggling at times in the third set. Longview never could get the lead in the third set but rallied late to make the set close after the Grizzlies had led by as many as eight points.

Sophomore Kailan Kuzmic led Butler in kills with 11 and also had nine digs, eight assists and a service ace. Freshman Mckenzie Johnson had 10 kills while hitting .409. She also had a service ace. Lexi Wartick added five kills for the Grizzlies, while Mary Kangas had 23 assists and Jessica Schwartz had 21 digs. 

Butler improves to 12-5 on the season. The Grizzlies will return home to play Coffeyville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It is the annual Pack the Power Plant promotion, which will feature free pizza and a team autograph session after the match.
