Butler volleyball sweeps Cloud for first conference victory

The Butler volleyball team swept visiting Cloud County on Wednesday at the Power Plant, snapping a three-game losing streak and earning their first conference victory since re-joining the Jayhawk West this season.

The Grizzlies swept the Thunderbirds by scores of 25-18, 25-10, 25-18. Butler trailed just once in the match – that by one point in the third set.

Rebecca Sewald and Mackenzie Stuever led Butler with eight kills apiece while Courtney Walker had seven and Lexi Wartick had six. Walker led the team with a .417 hitting percentage. Sewald had four solo blocks and an assist as part of the team's 14 blocks in the match. Jessica Schwartz had 17 digs and Mary Kangas had 12. Kangas also had two service aces.

Butler is now 7-5 overall and is 1-3 in Jayhawk West play. The Grizzlies will step out of league play this weekend for four matches at the Wyo-Braska event with three matches to be played in Torrington, Wyo. and one in Scottsbluff, Neb. Among the teams Butler will face is Western Wyoming, which is ranked seventh nationally with a 7-4 record. Butler will also face Sheridan (Wyo.), Northwest Colorado and have a rematch with Laramie County (Wyo.), a team that beat Butler 3-2 in Colorado earlier this year.
