Grizzlies edged by Barton in five-set match

The Butler volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five-set match to Barton (25-10, 13-25, 25-14, 19-25, 13-15), despite having one of the top offensive efforts of the season.

Butler (7-10 overall, 1-4 Jayhawk West) cruised to a 25-10 victory in the opening set, but the visiting Cougars rallied to tie the match with a 25-13 win in the second set. The Grizzlies grabbed a 2-1 set lead in the third, but Barton forced a fifth set with a 25-19 fourth set victory. In the final set, Barton held off the Grizzlies with a 15-13 win.

Freshman Rachael Buzanowski had a great night posting 16 kills and hit .361, while freshman Rebecca Sewald had 12 kills and hit .435. Sophomore Lexie Wartick added nine kills and six blocks, sophomore Mary Kangas had 26 assists with 10 digs and sophomore Jessica Schwartz had 27 digs. 

Butler will travel to Liberal, Kan., this weekend for the OzFest Invitational. The Grizzlies will face Seward County on Friday in conference play, then battle Frank Phillips (TX). On Saturday, Butler will play Fort Hays State JV and Western Texas.
