Butler volleyball remained undefeated at home on the 2017 season after sweeping Cloud County in straight sets on Wednesday at the Power Plant.
The Grizzlies (14-6 overall, 5-3 conference) beat Cloud 25-8, 25-12 and 25-16 to earn their ninth sweep of the season. Butler has swept its opponents in each of its past five victories.
Butler established the tone of the evening early on, scoring the first four points and jumping out to a 7-1 lead in the first set on their way to a the lopsided win in the first set.
Butler rolled through the second set as well to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Grizzlies doubled up the T-Birds 12-6, then increased the lead to 11 twice before winning the set by 13 points.
In the third set, Cloud took its first lead of the night at 7-5. Butler fought back to tie the match at 8-all, then regained the lead. The T-Birds stayed within a point at 14-13 when Butler scored eight straight points, essentially putting the set and the match away.
Butler was led by sophomore middle hitter Aliyah Bernard, who had nine kills and three service aces, while hitting .615. Outside hitters Claudia Hess and Nicole Klusener had five kills each. Klusener also had 18 digs. Sophomore setter Andie Nibarger finished with 17 assists.
The Grizzlies will go on the road for their next two matches, playing at Barton at 2 p.m. on Saturday and at Garden City next week.
