Butler volleyball rolls to home sweep over Dodge City

Butler volleyball earned a home three-set sweep over Dodge City (25-14, 25-17, 25-21) on Saturday at the Power Plant, which kept the Grizzlies above .500 in Jayhawk Conference play.

The Grizzlies (12-10 overall, 6-4 conference) finished with a season-high mark by hitting .463 on the match, while freshman outside hitter Nia Bishop led Butler with 13 kills.

Butler jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the opening set behind the serving of Sydney Scanlon, then Montana Soderberg had three aces as the Grizzlies built a 16-4 lead.

In the second set, Butler trailed 10-9 before reeling off four straight to capture a 13-10 lead over Dodge. The Grizzlies maintained the lead at 18-16, then ended the set with a 7-1 run.

A 13-4 Grizzly run midway through the final set helped Butler build an 18-10 lead. Dodge City would battle back to pull within three points late, but Claudia Hess hammered down the final kill to give the Grizzlies the victory.

In addition to a team-high 13 kills and a .500 hitting clip, Bishop added seven digs and block. Amalie Rupertova also had a solid performance by hitting at a .417 clip with six kills, four digs and three blocks. Alli Klausmeyer hit .545 with seven kills and added one ace and one block.

Sydney Scanlon recorded 31 assists with three digs, while Beth Schulte led the Grizzlies with 11 digs.

Next up for Butler will be a road match in Independence on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The Grizzlies will return home for matches against Pratt on Wednesday and Cloud County on Friday. Both home matches will begin at 6:30 p.m.
