Volleyball falls on the road at Colby

Colby, KS- Butler Volleyball faced another tough conference opponent Saturday afternoon on the road as they travelled to Colby.

Colby, who finished second in the KJCCC with a 14-2 conference record last season continued to show why they are a top team in the conference defeating Butler in three straight sets Saturday afternoon; 25-11, 25-21, 25-18.

In set one, the Trojans jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead which forced coach Lechtenberg to call a timeout. Colby scored the next three points after the timeout before Butler could stop the bleeding with Colby still leading 13-4.

Later in the set, the Grizzlies scored on back to back points giving them a little momentum, but a Karleeann Ramos kill would cut that momentum off. Colby would go on to win the set 25-11.

Set two saw the Trojans again jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead. Butler would continue to chip away and tie it up at 11-11. It became a back and fourth set with neither team gaining any major advantage. The Grizzlies continued to fight throughout the set staying within striking distance of the Trojans. After a viscous kill from Makalia Keith, Butler would get within two, 23-21. That would be the final highlight of the set for the Grizzlies as the Trojans went on to score the next two points to finish the match.

The third set saw Colby strike first taking the 4-2 lead. They kept the Grizzlies at bay throughout the entire match not allowing the Grizzlies to gain any momentum on scoring rallies. The Trojans would go on to take set three 21-18.

Amalie Rupertova finished with a team high five kills in the match adding in two blocks and 10 digs. Morgan Bryand and Jaryn Benning both had four kills each. Benning finished with five block and six digs while Bryand added in a block and four digs.
