The Butler Community College Cross Country team had a great showing at the McPherson College Lakeside Shootout on Saturday, according to head coach Jeff Becker. The women finished second, only a few points back from Cowley and the men finished third. The relatively flat course became very slow with the breezy conditions and thick grass.
Individually, Fiona Masai led the women with a fifth place finish and a season-best time. Also having a very strong showing for the Lady Grizzlies was Sylvia Tomno. Tomno's time of 20:58 was not only good enough for 20th place, but also 1:13 faster than she has run all year. The men were led by a combination of Kelvin Busienei and Benson Langat, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The team will be back in action on Friday, October 21st as Butler will host the Butler Cross Country Relay Meet at Wartick Ranch at 4 p.m.
