Butler women debut at No. 5 in first national ranking of 2013

The Butler women's cross country team is ranked fifth in the first national poll, which was released on Thursday.

The Hill-n-Dale poll, which also serves as the NJCAA national rankings, has Butler ranked fifth. Iowa Central, which received all nine first-place votes, is the top team in the poll. Johnson County, Allen County and Cuyahoga (Ohio) are ranked second, third and fourth, respectively.

Butler is led by sophomore returner Abiane Collymore, while the Grizzlies have a number of talented freshmen runners including Hayley Ribordy, Terra Flores, Hayley Flanigan, Kendell Notah, Tricia Trupe and Janell Kidd.

Butler's women finished second at their first meet of the year behind Wichita State. The Grizzlies will be at the Wichita State Invitational this Saturday at RAFT Ranch near Augusta. The women will run at 9 a.m. and the men at 9:45
