Butler women win Region VI, Jayhawk West titles

COLBY, Kan. – The Butler women's cross country team dominated its way to both the Region VI and Jayhawk West Conference titles Saturday at Colby's Meadow Lake Golf Course.

The Butler women won its 14th conference title in 15 seasons, winning the meet by 29 points over Dodge City.  Butler, who finished with 55 points, had three top 10 finishers en-route to the titles.

The Grizzlies were paced by sophomore Terra Flores, who finished third individually with a time of 18:58.80 in the 5K race. In addition to Flores, Butler had three runners receive All-Region VI honors. Defending Jayhawk West champion Madison Wedekind placed fifth (19:35.90), while sophomore Hayley Ribordy took ninth place (19:59.10). Flores and Wedekind earned first-team All-Region honors, while Ribordy received second-team honors.

Sophomores Janell Kidd and Tricia Trupe were the other two scorers for Butler, finishing 16th and 23rd, respectively.

Next up for the Butler women will be the NJCAA National Championship meet, which will be held in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 8.
