Butler women wrap up season at Nationals

The Butler women's cross country finished 17th overall out of 37 teams at the NJCAA meet on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Prairie Trails Golf Course.

The Grizzlies, were ranked 18th in NJCAA Division I Cross Country standings and they scored 491 points. Lansing Community College won the National Championship with 103 points. Central Arizona (106) and El Paso (106) were right on their heels, tied for second place. Iowa Central (111) came in fourth in a tight four-way race.

"The women accomplished one of our goals by finishing one higher than they were ranked and ran hard today," said Butler head cross country coach Ryan Turner.

Butler was once again led by Irine Jepkemboi who finished the 5K race in 20:11.24 placing 70th out of 316 runners. Janie Salinas and Jade Searles were close behind and came in 81st, 20:22.68 and 83rd, 20:27.01 respectively.

The remaining scorers for Butler were Jeanna Baker (127th, 21:11.08) and Jessica Finney came in three seconds later (21:14.08).

Finishing the Grizzly runners were Roshae Burrell (135th, 21:19.37) and Alex Fulton (159th, 21:41.84).

"Finishing the cross country season and before the indoor season starts, we will continue to work hard and prepare and try to get as many miles as possible during the Christmas break," Turner said.

This finishes out the cross country season and the indoor track season starts Jan. 14 in Norman, Okla for the Sooner Opener.
