Grizzly women finish runner-up at ESU Invite, place four in top 20

EMPORIA, Kan. — The Butler women had a strong runner-up showing at Friday's Papa John's Invitational hosted by Emporia State University.

Butler had four runners finish in the top 20 – including two top 10 placers in sophomores Jade Searles and Jeanna Baker – as the Grizzlies scored 76 points for the second-place finish.

Searles (20:24.68) and Baker (20:29.26) placed eighth and ninth, respectively, to lead the Grizzlies. Freshman Spencer Jacobson was Butler's third top runner at 20:41.49 for a 14th-place finish, while sophomore Conangela Senior was 20th with a 21:07.10 time on the 5K course.

Sophomore Roshae Burrell also scored for the Grizzlies, running 21:26.26 and finishing 25th.

Other Butler runners were Sheila Samoei (22:40.35, 45th), Irine Jepkemboi (22:58.48, 51st), Tara Mayes (23:40.78, 84th), Jentai Valentine (24:48.43, 99th) and Ebigael Rono (28:05.28, 130th).

Next up for Butler will be the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning with the women's 5K at 10:00 a.m.
