Grizzly women have runner-up finish at Ollie Isom Invite

The Butler women's cross country team finished the regular season with a second-place finish at the Ollie Isom Invitational on Monday at Wartick Farm.

Butler had its top five runners place in the top 15 while scoring 58 points to finish behind Cowley, who won the 5K event with 18 points. The Grizzlies had their second runner-up finish in the last three meets, as Butler took second at the Emporia State Invitational back on Sept. 22.

The ninth-ranked Grizzlies were led by sophomore Jade Searles and freshman Spencer Jacobson, as both runners finished in the top 10. Searles was sixth with a time of 19:45.11, while Jacobson had a 10th-place finish at 20:01.30. Searles was Butler's top runner for the third straight meet.

Sophomores Conangela Senior (20:03.96), Roshea Burrell (20:13.24) and Jeanna Baker (20:17.02) placed consecutively at 13-14-15 to score for Butler.

Other Grizzly runners were Irine Jepkemboi (21:28.11, 37th), Madison Bissell (21:54.87, 41st), Sheila Samoei (22:01.81, 44th), Jentai Valentine (22:34.52, 53rd), Tara Mayes (23:48.37, 67th) and Ebiagel Rono (24:16.62, 73rd).

Next up for Butler will be the Region VI Championships, which will be held in Garden City on Monday, Oct. 30.
