Butler Community College finished with 58 student-athletes earning All-Academic honors for the 2016-17 season, which ranked second overall among all NJCAA schools.

The Grizzlies had 12 athletes on the All-Academic First Team (4.00 GPA), while Butler placed 23 athletes on both the All-Academic second (3.80-3.99) and third teams (3.60-3.79).

Athletes earning All-Academic first-team honors were Hayden Schaeffer (baseball); Nakylia Carter (women's basketball); Mason Buckmaster (cross country, indoor/outdoor track & field), Lucas Vang, Sam Honas, Will Honas (football), Jordan Russell, Lauren Allan, Samantha Simmons, Taylor Edson (soccer) and Andie Nibarger (volleyball).

Named to the second team for Butler was Caleb Nunez, Colton Allemand, Corey Murphy and Zack Bilek (baseball); Ciara Johansen (women's basketball); Colin Reichenberger, Jeanna Baker (cross country); Anthony Null, Noah Johnson (football); Baker, Madison McLaughlin, Kendal McGuire (indoor/outdoor track & field); Beanie Luttig (outdoor track & field, softball); Colleen Howland, Kennedy Weaver, Taylor Spencer (soccer); Caylie Kifer, Celina Sullivan, Darrianne Hale, Becca Schulte (softball); Abby Goodrum, Kinzee Mayo and Nicole Kluesener (volleyball).

Placed on the All-Academic third team was Alecia Gulledge (women's basketball); Jade Searles, Kimberly Travis, Janie Salinas, Jacob Hesse (cross country, indoor/outdoor track & field); Brady Rust, Gannon Cornley, Jace Price (football); Keaton McGuire, Lewis Cain, Javonda Peagler, Julianna Horner, Landon Cuskelly and Valeriya Kostiuk (indoor/outdoor track & field).

With over 59,000 student-athletes participating in the NJCAA for the 2016-17 academic year, 10.1 percent earned a slot on one of the three highly regarded All-Academic Teams – a significant increase from the last year's record number of 7.9 percent.

A total of 1,333 student-athletes qualified for First Team accolades (4.0 GPA), shattering the previous record of 663 set last year. New records were also established in the other two award designations as 1,992 student-athletes earned Second Team honors and a total of 2,681 individuals qualified for inclusion on the Third Team.

For the second consecutive year, NJCAA Region 6 – consisting of member colleges in the state of Kansas – claimed the most award winners with 709.
