Butler baseball snaps losing streak with 10-4 win over Coffeyville

Using a six-run fifth-inning, Butler baseball snapped a six-game losing streak with a 10-4 home victory over Coffeyville on Tuesday night at McDonald Stadium.

With the bases loaded and no outs in the fifth, Butler (17-24 overall) broke a 2-2 tie when Luke Reynolds scored from third on a Channing Williams infield single. Bryant Klusener followed by clearing the bases with a three-run triple to right field to give the Grizzlies a 6-2 lead.

John Gardner and Grant Ware added RBI hits in the inning to put Butler up 8-2.

Coffeyville took an early 1-0 lead in the contest behind a solo home run by Alan Dunn in the second inning. Butler responded with RBI singles by Reynolds and Williams to take a 2-1 lead.

The Ravens answered back with a solo home run from Parker Smejkal in the fourth, but Butler would pull away with the big six-run fifth inning.

Hunter Aguirre scored three runs and went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Butler's offense, while Channing Williams went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

The Grizzlies used seven pitchers in the contest, with reliever Sloan Baker (1-0) earning the win. Baker struck out two batters while blanking Coffeyville in the fifth inning. The Grizzlies' bullpen combined to throw seven innings, allowing just five hits on three runs.

Butler will host Seward County for the beginning of a four-game series, beginning with a Friday doubleheader at 1 p.m. The series was moved up one day due to rain in Sunday's forecast.
