Butler baseball drops non-conference game at NOK-Enid

ENID, Okla. — Butler baseball suffered a 17-9 road loss at Northern Oklahoma-Enid on Monday afternoon at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

After a scoreless first inning, Butler (11-4 overall, 3-1 conference) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI groundout by Dawson Kabler. The Jets quickly responded in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on only two hits. Two of the runs scored off the batter being hit by pitcher Blake Mullendore, while Brendon Woelfle had a three-run double in the inning.

The Grizzlies sent David Henderson to the mound in the third, but Enid kept rolling and increased their lead to 10-1. Enid's DJ Calvert drove in three runs with a double to center field, and Henderson walked a batter with the bases loaded to score the fourth run of the inning.

In the top of the fourth, the Grizzlies came back to life, scoring three runs to cut Enid's lead to 10-4. Mason Goade and Jack Maki both scored on a double by Kabler, who then scored on a double by Joshua Cox.

The Jets extended their lead to 13-4 in the bottom of the fifth, getting three runs off two hits.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Butler scored five runs in the seventh. Patrick Bethea and Keone Givens hit consecutive doubles, which scored Bethea. The Grizzlies then loaded the bases after a Javier Pena walk and a Connor Hurst hit by pitch. Jackson Soule followed with a single to left to score Givens, then Jack Maki drove in Pena on a groundout. Two batters later, Kable singled to right to score Hurst and Soule to pull within four, 13-9.

However, Enid once again quickly answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs on four consecutive hits.

Throughout the contest, Butler used seven different pitchers who combined for 17 hits, 17 earned runs, 10 walks and three strikeouts.

Bethea and Soule both went 3-for-5 in the contest, while Kabler recorded a career-high five RBI.
