Butler splits series with Colby scoring 26 runs in two games Friday on the road

The Butler Baseball team (12-8, 9-7) squared up the series taking two games on the road with the Trojans on Friday afternoon in Colby.

After losing both home games Wednesday in El Dorado, 5-4 and 4-1, Butler even up the series with a 10-5 and 16-10-win Friday on the road in Colby.

Butler trailed by four runs in game one Friday but went back-to-back three run innings in the fourth and fifth, taking the 6-4 lead. Jonah Cox got it going in the fourth hitting a triple that scored Josh Cameron for the first run of the game. That opened up the flood gates and Jackson Syring hit a double to left center that scored Cox. Tanner Leslie hit a triple in the inning that scored Syring. Noah Argenta, Zach Stroh and Jaren Jackson each had an RBI in the fifth to give Butler the lead.

A two-RBI homerun form Noah Argenta in the sixth and a two RBI homerun by Johnathan Contreras in the seven would put the game away as Andrew Wisner closed it out in the seventh with Butler winning 10-5.

Game two, again, had the Grizzlies trailing early as Colby plated three in the first inning. The Grizzlies started to chip away with Johnathan Contreras hitting his second of three homeruns on the day in the top of the second. Butler went on to score in seven of the final eight innings to win 16-10 over the Trojans to close out the series.

It was a four run fifth and four run eighth inning that sealed it for the Grizzlies. Jaren Jackson had a three RBI double to left in the fifth and Bryce Zimmerer hit a two RBI double in the top of the eighth to give Butler a large enough cushion for closer Zach Nagle to finish it out.

Starting pitcher Dylan Richey left the game after turning funny on his ankle after the first pitch of the game was hit right back at him. Braxton Hyde replaced him immediately and picked up the win after going four innings giving up five hits, four runs with just one being earned. He walked two and struck out six batters.

Johnathan Contreras went 3-6 with three RBI's and two homeruns in game two. Jaren Jackson and Bryce Zimmerer both finished the game with three RBI's each.

"I thought we played well and hit well and after the first inning, our defenese looked pretty good," said head coach BJ McVay, "It was the first time in a long time that we picked up two wins in Colby as it is just a tough place to play."

NEXT UP: Butler (12-8, 5-3) will head to Dodge City on Thursday, April 8th for games one and two of the series. They will host games three and four on Saturday, April 10th at McDonald Stadium starting at 1:00pm.
