Grizzlies pick up three wins in Edmond over weekend

The Butler Grizzlies picked up their third and fourth wins of the season in Edmond, Oklahoma on Friday, trouncing Seminole State, 16-6, and defeating the Coffeyville Red Ravens, 8-6, in a battle of unbeatens at Simmons Field on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.

Game One

The Grizzlies used a solid performance from starter Braxton Hyde in the first game, as the sophomore right handed pitcher went five innings and gave up just three earned runs on two hits, earning eight punchouts. Three Butler pitchers combined to hold Seminole State to only four hits and six runs on the day, totaling 10 strikeouts. 

Butler flexed their depth at the plate, as seven Grizzlies earned hits on the day, combining for 16 runs on 13 hits. Bryce Zimmerer starred offensively, finishing with four hits and earning two RBIs, and he also scored five runs. Three Butler players hit homers, as Jackson Syring, Cooper Torres, and Paul Schoenfeld all went yard. Butler batters also earned 10 walks, while striking out only five times.

Game Two

The Grizzlies used a four run third inning that saw two home runs to lift them over Kansas rival Coffeyville in the second game, taking the lead off Cooper Torres' solo shot to center field, followed immediately by Francisco Guevara's two run bomb to left. Syring provided the third home run of the game as he continued his powerful start to the season, homering to left field in the fourth. Butler finished with eight runs on six hits. 

Izack Tiger notched his second win of the season on the mound, striking out eight batters and giving the ball four runs to improve his record to 2-0 as a starter. Andrew Wisnee was able to record Butler's first save of the season, as he gave up a run in the seventh and final inning but was able to shut down the Ravens to secure the victory.

Butler improves to 4-0 on the year and will play two more games in a Oklahoma, facing Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Saturday before a rematch against Wnid on Monday.
