Darius Lassiter named NJCAA Football All-American

The Butler Grizzlies' wide receiver, Darius Lassiter was named to the NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American team on Tuesday announced the NJCAA national office.

Lassiter was one of the nation's best wide receivers this season, and it showed in the statistics. His 37 receptions was 22nd in the nation, and second in the Jayhawk Conference. His 10 touchdowns this season registered at fourth in the nation, and his 707 yards was good enough for 12th. His 70.7 yards per game and 19.1 yards per catch were both good enough for top 15 in the nation.

Lassiter, a third year player from Lawrence, Kansas, played in every game this season. His best game came in the first game of the year against Independence, catching seven passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns. He reached 100 yards in three different games this season, and scored in seven. He finished his career at Butler with nearly 1,000 yards in his three seasons.

Darius is the next in a long line of Grizzly All-Americans, the last of which was Eddie Lewis who received honors in the 2021 spring season. The Grizzlies have had at least one All-American every year since 2018, and there has been just one year without a Grizzly All-American, dating back to 1981. Lassiter's uncle, Kwamie Lassiter, was also an All-American while at Butler, Kwamie earned the honors while playing in the 1990 season, before going onto a veteran NFL career that led to him being honored in the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2021.
