Chris Jones is now in his 14th season overall with the Butler Football program. Jones works with the tight ends and spent 13 seasons with the wide receivers. During his tenure as a Butler coach, the Grizzlies have compiled a 122-24 record, won nine conference titles, seven Region VI championships, five bowl championships, and two national championships. 

Jones coached the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Year in All-American Eddie Lewis during the sprign 2021 season.

Jones has coached five NJCAA All-Americans – Eddie Lewis (Memphis), Javess Blue (Kentucky), Kendall Wrenn (Midwestern State), Marcus Kennard (Texas Tech) and Tyrece Gaines (Oregon). He coached an All-American in three straight seasons (2010-2012) and four over a seven-year period. While at Butler in the receivers position, Jones has coached 22 different receivers to All-Conference honors. 

In addition to receivers earning postseason accolades, Jones has worked with two current NFL wide receivers – Michael Gallup (Dallas) & Byron Pringle (Kansas City).

In 2016, Jones spent one season as the wide receivers coach at Big Spring High School in Texas. After two seasons away from football, Jones returned to Butler coaching the Grizzly wideouts in 2019.

During the 2015 season, Jones had three different receivers amass 400 yards – McKinley Johnson, Julian Burris and Pringle. Both Burris and Pringle earned All-KJCCC second-team honors.

Under Jones in 2014, the Grizzlies had a record-setting group of receivers - amassing 3,400 yards on 247 

catches and 38 touchdowns as a unit. The Grizzlies were led Gallup (44 receptions for 780 yards and 11 touchdowns), who set the Butler school record for most receiving yards in a single game (287 yards in 53-36 win at Dodge City on Oct. 11).

Prior to coming to Butler, Jones worked for the Kansas City Chiefs Organization as a member of their video department. He was responsible for shooting game and practice film and editing it for the coaching staff to evaluate during the season.

Jones graduated from Wichita State University with Honors in May 2006, earning a degree in Sport Administration. Chris is originally from Shawnee, Kan., where he graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School and twice lettered in football.

Jones has a son, Jaryn and daughters, Lynzi and Tynli.
