Mathis Thomas begins his third season with Butler football, where he is in charge of coaching the cornerbacks.

Thomas coached All-KJCCC player Nickendre Stiger (Wichita, KS) during the Spring 2021 season.

In 2019, Mathis coached all conference defensive backs Alfahiym Walcott (now at Baylor) and Kway’Chon Chisom (now at UTSA). 

Prior to Butler, Thomas spent the 2018 season coaching cornerbacks at Clarion (Pa.) University. In 2017, Thomas was at Dakota College at Bottineau (N.D.) in charge of the wide receivers. 

Mathis played collegiately at Dakota College at Bottineau, where he received All-American honorable mention accolades at running back. Mathis then transferred to Graceland University, in Lamoni, Iowa. At Graceland, Mathis was an All-HAAC first-team selection at running back.

Mathis received his Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management from Graceland University.
